Courier Satchels - Making the Satchels
We make our own courier satchels and follow a very thorough and scientific process to produce high quality and durable courier satchels with high puncture resistance.
There are two important stages in our manufacture process.
Stage #1: film co-extrusion process
Stage #2: the conversion process

Stage #1: film co-extrusion process
Film co-extrusion is a fascinating process where two separate blends of plastic resin resembling small granules of sand are loaded into two separate hoppers and then gravity fed into separate barrels of the extruder.
Each hopper contains a different colour of plastic. We use black for the inside layer of the film. This gives our courier satchels amazing opaqueness to protect the privacy of the contents. And we also add a white film for the outside layer, which allows for printing or writing details.

The two resins are perfectly bonded together inside a plastic extrusion machine that heats it up to three times the boiling point (300ºC) turning the plastic resin into lava-like liquid plastic. Very hot!
As the film travels past the exit die it’s air-cooled at extreme high pressure, passed through high-tech conveyor belt and wound onto large 300kg parents reels. The material is no transported for printing or converting into the final courier satchels.
At regular intervals we cut samples of the film for quality control testing we test the film to tensile strength, friction and elongation properties.

Stage #2: the conversion process
Firstly the parent roll is loaded onto the rollers of the machine.
Then, the film is rolled off the roll and folded by a folding bar. This quick process forms the two sides of the bags – the white and the opaque. It then continues to travel down the machine.
At the same time, above the machine, glue is dripped onto a plastic strip. This strip becomes the removable tape. The strip is then applied down the length of the film. It has nothing to do with bonding both sides of the satchel together. This plastic strip stays on the lip of the satchel, and is what people remove to glue the lip onto the body of the bag – after they put stuff in.

Next, a sealing bar comes down to heat seal the two sides of the film together to form the satchel. Simultaneously, the bar will cut the the film to the width of each individual satchel. The courier satchels are then counted by machine into bundles of 50 and packed into poly bags. These are then boxed into cartons and palletised in our manufacturing facility.
